Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week 07
Come and be part of one of the best sailing regattas in the Country. Falmouth Week starts with Falmouth Classics on Saturday 11th August. With a fleet of over 150 of our favourite oldies this event is a spectacular sight for both the competitors and the many spectators who throng both Pendennis and St Mawes Castles to watch the racing.
Falmouth Week Regatta (the serious but fun racing) starts on Sunday (12th). This is a series of six races each hosted by a different Sailing Club for the day. Sunday sees the bigger boats that race in the bay all week going to Helford River Sailing Club. The Carrick Fleets remain in the Carrick Roads that day and return for tea in Falmouth. We then go into a fixed pattern, Mylor Yacht Club on Monday, Restronguet Sailing Club Tuesday, Flushing Sailing Club Wednesday, Thursday St Mawes Sailing Club and finally Royal Cornwall Yacht Club at Falmouth on Friday (17th) who host the end of Regatta Prizegiving. GONE is the 2006 lay day when we held a Harbour Race, in 2007 if you want a rest you will have to use up one of your discards and hope you don't have too many disasters in the rest of the week!
Saturday (18th) is Falmouth Town Committee's day to hold our Falmouth Week Champagne Day. Although this will require a separate entry, this Saturday is a traditional part of the whole week. There will be Champagne prizes for each class but no dinghy racing on this day. Falmouth Town also has some splendid silverware to be won, - pot hunters and those liking the odd tipple miss this day at your peril! Many of the local Class Associations will be including this Saturday with Falmouth Week Regatta for their own Class trophies so check with your local Association if you are in the points, because what do points make...PRIZES!!
Whilst all the bigger boats are having their fun, the dinghy owners will be getting up earlier for the FALMOUTH DINGHY WEEK (12th-17th). This event is also very much part of Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week. Restronguet Sailing Club, our local dinghy experts, will be managing this event for us. We hope that this part of the week will become one of our growth areas, so hitch up those boats you dinghy sailors and head west on the M5 - we would love to see you!
