B14 Worlds
The B14 World Championships are returning to the UK for the first time since 1998 when the inaugural event took place at Weymouth. I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead the organisation of the event and feel certain that we will have a package that you will not want to miss out on.
Our objective is to make this an event that all B14 owners, friends and families want to attend. We already have a lot of interest from previous luminaries of the fleet. However, this event is not just about the battle for the Worlds title. We want all B14 owners, whatever their standard or experience, to come to Restronguet and join in the party and we will be announcing a number of incentives to make this an event that is enjoyable for everyone.
THE VENUE We are excited to have secured Restronguet as the venue for the 2007 Worlds. It combines stunning scenery with great sailing waters and a really enthusiastic and welcoming club. Cornwall is a great holiday venue with something for all the family, whether it is beautiful sandy beaches, rugged coastlines, quaint fishing villages, attractions such as the Eden Project and National Maritime Museum or great pubs and food.
The B14 class has a well renowned reputation for full-on socialising and we are confident that no-one will be disappointed with the shoreside entertainment. However, for those with families to consider, the area could not be a better place to spend a week’s holiday. We are therefore confident that all members of the B14 extended family will want to take part and make this an event not to be forgotten (or very hard to remember)!
Restronguet Sailing Club has a long track record of producing top quality sailors, most notably Ben Ainslie, and knows how to run a major championship successfully. We are fortunate to have the highly experienced Ian Fraser as our PRO, who’s attitude is to provide an event for the sailors enjoyment.
ON THE WATER One of the great attractions of Restronguet is the flexibility to choose the sailing area dependent upon conditions. Falmouth Bay provides excellent sea sailing conditions, but being land locked on 3 sides does not develop a seaway that would cause problems for a B14. If conditions are too windy for the bay, the club has the option to move the course into Carrick Roads, an area similar to Sydney Harbour (but without the shipping!).
