In 1835, a Great Western Railway directcorcommented that Isambard Kingdom Brunel should extend his 'Billiard Table Railway' onwards from Bristol to cross the Atlantic. Over the next twenty years, Brunel designed and built three revolutionary ocean going ships which changed the design and construction of merchant ships forever.
