Fal Under Fire - Exhibition & Display (NMMC)
The Bombing of The British Chancellor in Falmouth Docks, 1940 by Charles Pears courtesy of the Falmouth Art Gallery Collection
At the height of World War Two the Carrick Roads and Falmouth Bay rarely had fewer than 100 vessels anchored. With the docks working at full capacity dealing with convoy casualties and Falmouth’s strategic significance at the far west on the Atlantic seaboard, the Fal was an obvious target.
Defending the port and surrounding area was vitally important and this new art and photography exhibition features a selection of emotive images of life on the Fal during wartime.
