MULTIMARINE LAUNCHES DAZCAT 1190 BORN SLIPPY

At 5 o’clock on Friday 6th October a new design was launched at the yard of Multimarine Composites in Millbrook, Cornwall.

The Dazcat 1190 Born Slippy is a variant on the very successful Dazcat 12m racer/cruiser, with high performance in addition to very comfortable living quarters. These comprise 3 double cabins with full standing headroom, a head forward in the port hull with shower and basin, and a capacious saloon with the galley and nav station dropped down midships into the hulls. Her owners, Mike and Carol Sills, previously owned a Dazcat 10, Belladonna, which they sold last year to James Jermain, consultant editor at Yachting Monthly who has been a fan of the 10m since he wrote a review for YM.

The 1190 was originally built for its designer, Darren Newton, who wanted high average speeds for quick ocean crossings, and to be able to sail both short-handed and fully crewed. Last year he regretfully decided to sell the catamaran part-built to free up funds for the development of new premises, and was delighted when Mike and Carol chose to stick with the Dazcat brand for the bigger cat they wanted to celebrate Mike’s retirement. Mike was closely involved with the project, under the supervision of Multimarine, taking advantage of the yard’s policy of encouraging owners to be involved with the build of their boat. Features the Sills have added include a solid bimini to shelter the cockpit. They plan to cruise her with family and friends.

The Dazcat 1190 is built using full female tooling materials including a protective 65PA gel coat and Isothalic resin with multi-axial and uni-directional fabrics. Core material is PVC foam for the hull structure, wet-deck, and bulkheads. The canopy for Born Slippy was splash-moulded using MDF and vacuum-bagged. Interior finishes include gel coat, painted, timber and lined surfaces. There is no exposed GRP showing. Sea trials commenced on 10th October and so far she is living up to all expectations.
