Fowey Royal Regatta
Fowey is a quiet town on the south coast of Cornwall, but for one week every August it plays host to hundreds of visitors who flock to see Fowey Royal Regatta.
Fowey Royal Regatta is held every August and is one of Britain’s premier sailing events. However, not all the action takes place on the water; there’s plenty to keep landlubbers entertained, from children’s entertainment to the Red Arrows. Most of these events are free, and those that it is necessary to charge for are not inhibitive.
The Regatta has a long and proud history, having attracted visitors including Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and Queen Elizabeth II.
In 2002, it was the 25th Anniversary of the Red Arrows coming to Fowey. The First display by the team took place on 19th August 1977, and determined not to disappoint the crowds 25 years later a pilot went through the entire display with no instrumentation, doing manouvures at 400mph and over from memory!
