The Fellowship is the oldest G&S Company in the country being founded in 1923 predating even the national G&S Society, and received important awards and many accolades from its performance at the Buxton International G&S Festival and its annual productions in Plymouth.
In its 90-year history the Fellowship has, in addition to numerous concerts for charity, produced 92 full productions of the Savoy operas at various theatres, including over twenty at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth.
Despite its age, the Fellowship has moved with the times, performing both updated and traditional versions of the operas. In the past few years the company has three times won the NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association) Regional Award for Excellence. In 2010 the company was invited to present its production of Ruddigore at the International Buxton Gilbert and Sullivan Festival, where they were nominated in six categories, winning two: Best Traditional Opera and Best Male Voice - Rod Hunt.
The Fellowship performs a full programme of concerts and workshops throughout the year in addition to its annual fully-staged production. Every few years the company performs a work outside the Gilbert and Sullivan canon, for example, The Merry Widow in 2009 and My Fair Lady in 2012
Their concert performance with the Band of H M Royal Marines Plymouth, held in the Hall for Cornwall in aid of the RNLI and Fellowship in January this year, received great acclaim. So much so that it is being repeated in 2014.
This year’s The Gondoliers, was described by the National Operatic and Dramatic Association as “the most inventive production of The Gondoliers since 2001”, and “without doubt…a brilliant production”.
