main_under_full_sailCornwall Marine Network member and Falmouth law firm Hine Downing has signed up as an event sponsor with a commitment of £5,000 to this year’s Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta from September 10 to 13.

It is one of the biggest single sponsorship commitments agreed by the firm so far in this its tenth anniversary year. “We are pleased to be helping with this prestigious event for Falmouth as part of our ongoing commitment to our community”, said Mike Wilson, Hine Downing’s senior partner. “Falmouth’s maritime history and traditions are second to none and we are delighted to have the opportunity to support the town’s pivotal involvement in one of the highlights of the international sailing calendar.”

As a Tall Ships event sponsor, Hine Downing representatives and guests will enjoy privileges including a private escorted tour of a tall ship, VIP viewing of parade of sail at Pendennis Castle and various corporate hospitality opportunities.

Hine Downing is a corporate founder member of the National Maritime Museum Cornwall and the firm’s community support also includes the presentation of an annual cup to the Sunbeam Class of the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club. It is involved in the RNLI through various members of the firm.

This year’s Tall Ships Race is the centerpiece marking the 500th anniversary of the founding of the port of Funchal in Madeira. Carrick District Council, main organisers of the Falmouth regatta, are still welcoming sponsors for the event as the ships register their places.
